Mrs Jean Tuckwell At 100 Years Old

Special thanks to Tony Bunting (S60-65) for graciously granting permission to use his photos and for providing background on the significant event celebrating Mrs. Jean Tuckwell 100 birthday. She was the inaugural House Mistress of the newly established girls’ house in 1974, marking the entry of girls into Dover College 50 years ago.

On October 10th 2013, a commemorative lunch was hosted by her family and attended by Old Dovorians, former staff members, and friends and family of Jean, at what was known as The White Cliff’s Hotel on the sea front in Dover.

Jean joined Dover College with her husband Nigel Tuckwell after World War II in 1946. She quickly became a pivotal figure at the college, alongside Denys Bailey and Penny Mathews. This association continued until Nigel Tuckwell’s retirement in 1981, culminating in 35 years of remarkable service and dedication to Dover College and the Old Dovorian Club.
