Professor Niall Logan, Old Dovorian
It’s with great sadness that the Old Dovorian Club announces the passing of Professor Niall Logan. He joined Dover College from The City of London’s Freemen’s School in Surrey in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Professor Logan was a distinguished academic at Glasgow Caledonian University, where he was awarded a personal chair in bacterial systematics. In 2017, he received the international Bergey Medal in recognition of his outstanding and lifelong contributions to the field of bacterial classification and identification. In 2020, a new genus of bacteria was named after him—Niallia!
Although it did not become his career, his first love was archaeology, and he has now found his way back to it. A keen amateur of vernacular architecture, he single-handedly restored his 18th-century farmhouse over 40 years.
