Duncan Ellerington (Staff 02 - 18 & VP of the OD Club) Runs the London Marathon in Memory of Rupert Hill (Staff 1986 - 2021 & VP of the OD Club)

Duncan Ellerington’s (Staff 02 – 18 and Vice President of the OD Club) dedication to Rupert Hill’s memory through his participation in the London Marathon is truly inspiring. His heartfelt words capture the essence of Rupert’s kindness and the impact he had on those around him.

Duncan has written the following, which he has asked that the Club share with you as the reason why he is running the London Marathon this year in Rupert’s Memory.

“Rupert is destined for Heaven. The kindest man I have ever met. We must keep that torch of kindness burning.’

When I heard that Rupert had passed, I knew that I wanted to do something to keep that torch of kindness burning so I pre-emptively entered the London Marathon (Sunday April 27th 2025) with the spark of an idea to raise funds for an ‘Act of Kindness/Kindness Award/Bursary’ in his name for the College. It would of course be up to the College as to how the fund/prize is allocated but it should emphasise that kindness is a fundamental attribute and people who display it, although not looking for reward, should be recognised.

I will run the Marathon in the local area and ensure that the last 10km is from Rupert’s House in Ripple and will finish at Dover College where he served for so long. I will set up a “justgiving page” for sponsorship and I am sure that the Dover College community will come together support it.

I hope the Old Dovorians can really get behind this and help reach a challenging target”.

The idea of raising funds for an “Act of Kindness/Kindness Award/Bursary” in Rupert’s name is a beautiful way to honour his legacy and ensure that his spirit of generosity continues to inspire others.
