ODGS "Nigel Tubman Invitational" 14th July Match Report

-The Littlestone championship course is recognized as one of the premier links in the UK, and to play this wonderful course is a privilege, especially when playing as the guest of a member. The course provides players with some outstanding views of the local landscape and the sea

Mark Rumble, Michael Tubman and our President Michael Walter joined Nigel for the second of our Home Fixtures’. Mark and Michael doing their best to avoid those on foot whilst ‘off roading’ round the course in their buggies.

If the wind is even slight up, then the number of shots required to finish the last 3 holes rises radically, much to the satisfaction of the members when hosting guests, who apply their local knowledge to much advantage. Sadly, for Michael, our President on his first active golf outing in 2025, Nigel requested strong winds of 30 mph plus to add to the group’s enjoyment

Thankfully, the friendly little club house with its homely menu offers a welcome respite from the wind and the thoughts of the shots lost.
The group were playing for the Turner Plate. Their scores will be compared to the second group playing this course later in August. In addition, the individual cards will be counted for the best 3 overall Stableford scores for the annual Bruce Johnson Salver.

Individual Stableford scores for the day
Michael T: 24 pts off 26, Mark R: 32 pts off 19, Nigel T: 37 pts off 26

The OD club Captain will be investigating a clear lapse in the Littlestone Match and Handicap committee’s due diligence process for permitting Nigel to be accommodated with a handicap which has been clearly misappropriated. A strong letter of protest will shortly be sent by first class post to the Littlestone Secretary. Should Nigel arrive at the next OD fixture wearing a full set of Mexican traditional golfing dress we assume the handicap has been fully verified the South American Golfing Federation. I would not have been surprised had Nigel’s brother Michael called for immediate medical assistance on hearing the news of Nigel’s new handicap as he tee’d off from the first.
In the meantime we are still very grateful to Nigel for hosting the event and for his kind hospitality, it was clearly a most enjoyable day.
