From Army Medic to Invictus Champion — Kimberly’s Next Mission Is Nepal 🇳🇵

After 15½ years of continuing distinguished service in the British Army, Kimberly Sterling (D03–08) continues to redefine what it means to serve. As a combat medic with both 1 Royal Gurkha Rifles and 2 Royal Gurkha Rifles, Kimberly supported operations and deployments with unwavering dedication. In 2022, she made the bold decision to trade transfer and retrain as a nurse — a dream she fulfilled this summer, with hopes of returning to one of the battalions in her new role.

Though she never had the chance to visit Nepal during her service, Kimberly witnessed the extraordinary work of the Gurkha Welfare Trust, which provides financial, medical, and developmental aid to Gurkha veterans, their families, and communities.

Living with chronic pain, Kimberly found new strength through sport — winning four gold medals for Team UK at the inaugural Invictus Games.

Now, she’s taking on a new challenge: completing the Annapurna Circuit in October 2025, reaching altitudes of 5,416m. Every step of this trek will be in support of the Gurkha Welfare Trust, with all funds raised presented in person at the end of her journey.

Kimberly’s spirit is unstoppable. Her Nepali may still be a work in progress, but she promises it’ll be better by the time she reaches the mountains. For now, she says: Dhanyabad.
