Old Dovorian Lodge Gives A Donation to Beyond The Wire
On 28 January, the Worshipful Master, W. Bro Robert McAlpin (M71–76), accompanied by the Lodge’s Director of Ceremonies, W. Bro Sqn Ldr (Ret’d) Budgie Sargent (M70–75), had the great pleasure of welcoming Jilly Carrell, founder of the charity Beyond the Wire, and Fiona Walker, the charity’s Director of Communications, to the RAF Club in London.
The occasion marked the presentation of a £1,500 donation from the Master’s 2025/26 Charity List.
Beyond the Wire is a young but vital organisation dedicated to supporting the families of service personnel who have passed away in service. Their mission — ensuring that no bereaved military family feels forgotten or alone — reflects a deep compassion that resonates strongly with the Old Dovorian Lodge and Dover College’s historic and ongoing connections to the armed and reserve forces.
The Lodge’s donation will contribute directly to the development of the charity’s innovative online Bereavement Hub. This new platform will serve as a comprehensive, central resource for bereaved families, bringing essential information together in one accessible place.
As the first hub of its kind in the UK, it will also support research aimed at improving bereavement services across the wider Armed Forces community.
The Old Dovorian Lodge is proud to support Beyond the Wire and stands firmly behind their commitment to providing comfort, clarity, and connection to families at one of the most challenging moments of their lives.
