Exciting News from the Old Dovorian Club!

We are thrilled to welcome three distinguished Old Dovorians to our Club’s Committee, marking a significant step toward balanced representation among our members.

With the prospect of their formal election at our next AGM, this development reflects our commitment to inclusivity and progress—values that resonate deeply, especially as Dover College celebrates 50 years since girls were first admitted to the school.

This milestone serves as a reminder of the strength of our community and the continued evolution of the Old Dovorian Club. We look forward to the fresh perspectives and contributions of our newest committee members as we build on our shared legacy and strengthen the bonds that connect us all.

Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, your support and engagement are greatly appreciated!

Dr. Tamara Common (D00 – 05)

Dr Tamara Common (Duckworth, 2000–2005) is delighted to be joining the Old Dovorian Club Committee.

She studied medicine at St George’s, University of London after a gap year working at a Scout camp in a Bavarian castle. While at university, she was a student ambassador, delivering widening participation workshops that encouraged young people to consider careers in healthcare. She also established the Teddy Bear Hospital, running sessions in local primary schools to help reduce childhood anxiety around medical environments.

Tamara has since built a varied career as a doctor, working in emergency medicine, general surgery and palliative care across South East England. She went part-time for GP training to teach communication and clinical skills at Kent and Medway Medical School. She now works as a GP locally in Kent.

Outside of work, Tamara has a passion for travel and the outdoors. She enjoys gardening and exploring the Kent countryside, on foot or by bike.

She is looking forward to contributing in a new capacity, supporting the committee’s engagement with past and present students of the College.

Mrs Sandra Wilson (nee Hignett) – (D75 – 77)

Sandra Wilson (née Hignett) was one of the pioneering students to join Dover College in 1975, marking a historic moment as the school officially welcomed girls for the first time. Since then, she has remained a proud member of the Dover College community. Now based in Poulton – le – Fylde, Lancashire , Sandra plays a vital role in keeping Old Dovorians connected, serving as the main contact and organizer for the Northern OD Club group. Through her dedication, she helps foster friendships, maintain traditions, and ensure that fellow Old Dovorians remain engaged with the wider Dover College network.

Mrs Louise Wells (Staff 23 – 25)

My Dover journey began in 2004, when I embarked on a university work placement in the Drama Department under the guidance of the legendary Jude Single. Those formative years ignited my passion for education, setting the stage for a future I could not have predicted.

Fast forward nearly two decades—through twists, turns, and invaluable experiences—I found myself back at Dover in 2023, stepping into the pastoral and safeguarding team. Alongside this role, I had the immense privilege of becoming Head of Duckworth House, a position that filled me with pride and purpose. Leading Duckworth House has been far more than just a title. It has been a journey of unforgettable moments, profound connections, and the honour of working alongside an incredible mix of students and families. Their energy, resilience, and spirit continue to inspire me, making every challenge and triumph truly worthwhile.

As the summer term of 2025 draws to a close, my daughter will be completing her 6th form studies and joining the ranks of Old Dovorians. Watching her walk the same halls and embrace the same traditions has been incredibly meaningful, adding yet another layer to my deep connection with this special place.
