Old Dovorian Golf Society Triangular Match
On Thursday 9th October, Tony Robin, , Nigel Tubman , Jack Fuller, Charlie Scott, Tony Lancaster and myself, were privileged to represent the Old Dovorians in the Triangular match against Old Eastbournians (OEs) and the Old Reedonians (ORs) at the West Surrey Golf club ( which was in fabulous condition ) playing for the prestigious Foresail Trophy.
Our plea for the ORs to bring their second-tier team, sadly fell on deaf ears given last year’s winning OR team enjoyed the challenging course , the finger buffet and having drinks on the sunny patio so much, they all reserved their places for this year’s event.
Ominously, Jeremy their team Captain and last year’s West Surrey GC Captain had forgotten to engrave the OR name on the trophy and confidently remarked to Tony R that he would get both years engraved after this event!
I had the privilege of watching Jeremy playing off 6 launching straight 300-yard drives and then majestically strike his second shot metronomically onto the middle of the green, time after time to secure 37 points helping his OR team of 6 to rack up a total of 200 points to secure the trophy yet again.
The ODs team secured second place with 188 points, led by Tony R, the event organiser on his home course achieving a very solid 38 pts with Charlie Scott scoring a fantastic 39 points, only being pipped by an OR for the best stableford score by a count back. The OEs were third with 166 points.
Here we see Tony R with Charlie before the match, possibly discussing pre match tactics. However, as you can see, our events are very sociable and relaxed, especially after the Golf.
