Running with Heart:

On Sunday 7 September 2025, Mike Walsh (01–07) laced up his running shoes and joined thousands of others for The Big Half—a spirited half marathon that celebrates community, resilience, and personal purpose. The 13-mile route began beside the iconic Tower Bridge and wound through the vibrant boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Southwark, Lewisham, and Greenwich, finishing at the historic Cutty Sark.

But for Mike, this wasn’t just a race—it was a heartfelt tribute.

Mike ran in memory of Rupert Hill, a dear friend who bravely faced cancer until the end of last year. Every step Mike took was filled with reflection, honour, and love. Rupert’s courage and warmth were with him throughout the journey, turning the run into something far deeper than a physical challenge.

All funds raised from Mike’s run are being donated to Pilgrims Hospices, whose compassionate care supported Rupert and his family during his final days. Their work brings comfort and dignity to countless families, and every donation helps them continue this vital mission.

Mike captured his race on video—from the electric start at Tower Bridge to the emotional finish at the Cutty Sark. You can experience the run alongside him by watching the video on YouTube.

There’s still time to support. If you’d like to make a donation, simply scan the QR code or visit Mike’s JustGiving page. Every contribution helps Pilgrims Hospices offer care, comfort, and hope to those who need it most.

Together, we run not just for fitness—but for love, remembrance, and the promise of compassionate care.
