OD Cricket Club Has A Bright Start to the 2026 T 20 Campaign at Historic Eastry

A perfect summer evening at Eastry Cricket Club set the stage for Old Dovorian CC second win of the 2026 season

The Old Dovorian Cricket Club rolled into their 2026 T20 campaign yesterday evening with confidence already in the bank after May’s convincing win over the Forty Club. And what a setting for their next chapter: the historic, postcard‑perfect ground of Eastry Cricket Club, where more than two centuries of cricketing echoes seem to drift across the outfield.

As the sun slipped behind Updown House, long golden shadows stretched across a pitch that has witnessed everything from Victorian elegance to wartime silence. The wicket looked true, the outfield quick, and the crowd—families, locals, dogs, and the ever‑vocal sideline sages—settled in for what promised to be a lively evening of cricket.

Eastry CC chose to bat first on a wicket offering plenty for those willing to play their shots. But once again, it was the tight, disciplined Old Dovorian bowling attack—a theme carried over from their previous outing—that proved decisive, restricting Eastry to 110 from their 20 overs.

Leading the charge was Jack Libby, whose spell of 2 for 20 from 3 overs set the tone. He was well supported by A. Stanly, who chipped in with 2 for 40 from 4, and B. Sanwood, impressively economical with 1 for 13 from 2 overs.

Eastry’s resistance came courtesy of R. Hill, who crafted a composed 37 not out, and W. Lewis, adding a solid 24 to help their side reach a competitive total.

Chasing 111 to win, Old Dovorian CC didn’t get the start they wanted. S. Brown departed early for just 4, leaving the visitors wobbling. But the innings found its anchor when A. Sambucci joined J. Libby at the crease. Together, they rebuilt calmly and confidently, pushing the score to 71 before Libby fell to the bowling of W. Lewis

Enter H. Roberts to the fray, who wasted no time announcing himself. His quick‑fire 30 not out shifted the momentum decisively, guiding the Old Dovorians home with authority as they reached the target inside 15 overs.

A Fine Evening of Cricket, a well‑fought match, played in great spirit, and enjoyed by all who gathered at one of Kent’s most charming cricketing venues. With two wins from two, the Old Dovorian Cricket Club head into their next fixture—a T20 away at Worth Cricket Club on 24th June—with momentum firmly on their side.
