Once again, the Old Dovorian London Group descended on The Walrus & The Carpenter in the heart of the City of London, gathering from around 5pm on Wednesday 29th July for an evening of sunshine, stories, and superb company.
With the sun beaming down, the first drinks were enjoyed outside, where the atmosphere felt more like a holiday than a mid‑week meet‑up. Conversations sparked instantly — some between old friends who hadn’t seen each other for decades, others between Dovorians meeting for the very first time. It was one of those rare evenings where the decades melted away, with Old Dovorians from the 1960s through to the 2010s sharing the same table, the same laughter, and the same unmistakable Dover College spirit.
What followed was a wonderful blend of reminiscing and discovery. Tales of school days, friendships, and memorable characters were exchanged with the same enthusiasm as updates on careers, families, adventures, and life since leaving the College. New connections were formed, old ones rekindled, some stretching back more than 50 years, all bound together by that unique Dovorian thread.
As the evening rolled on, the conversations grew richer, the laughter louder, and the sense of community stronger. By around 9pm, the final cheerful stragglers made their way towards Monument Station, heading home after what had been a thoroughly convivial night in excellent company.
