Old Dovorian Golf Society (ODGS)

The OD Golf Society was formed in 1961, as several of the past pupils involved in the OD Cricket and Hockey teams also enjoyed golf. One of the first events to be organised was a Triangular match with our previous school’s close rivals, Kings School Canterbury (The Cantuarians and St. Lawrence Ramsgate (Old Lawrentians), that fixture remaining until 2023.
Today the society is delighted to welcome past pupils of Dover College and the Dover College Junior School & Westbrook House Folkestone as well as past & present members of staff from the College. We currently have 36 members including 6 new Alumni.
We host events from April to October each year at different golf courses across Surrey and Kent, usually on weekdays, which include breakfast, a round of golf followed by either lunch or sandwiches. These include our ‘Home Fixture’ days whereby an OD invites 3 other ODGS members to benefit from playing at their home course by paying member visitor rates, which are significantly more affordable than society rates. While our aim is that we have a fun and relaxed round of golf, we also incentivise good golf by offering both individual and team prizes. So even if you are not having one of your best rounds you can still help your team win a prize.
We would be delighted to organize events further afield should they be required. Our objective is to make each event a sociable day out where we all enjoy a good chat and are relaxed about the actual golf. Our group is a diverse mix, with handicaps ranging from 5 to 30 or more, and ages ranging from 11 to 83! So, we are delighted to welcome a wide range of ages, skills and experience.
In 2021, we were pleased to welcome pupils, parents & staff of the College to a fun day’s golf fixture at Etchinghill GC, where we mix everyone into fun teams and play a Texas Scramble. Since then, the College now offers Golf as one of their sports activities at Etchinghill where the pupils are also coached by one of the professionals. We are hoping this initiative will be the future lifeblood of the society. In 2025 we launched a new membership Category to attract former pupils under the Age of thirty to join, and so far, we stated above we already have 6 Alumni members as full members of the ODGS.
We are always eager to welcome new members. Therefore, if you enjoy golf, whatever your standard, and would like a game at West Hill, Etchinghill, Tandridge, Littlestone, The Richmond, Betchworth Park, Rye and West Surrey to name but a few, then just contact the OD club
