Lieutenant Commander Ritchie Wilkinson RNVR (Staff 18 – Present) brings a remarkable blend of creativity, leadership and service to the Old Dovorian Club Committee, joining as part of the Club’s renewed strategy to strengthen long‑lasting, open and collaborative ties with Dover College. His appointment reflects the shared ambition of both the College and the Club to build a modern, dynamic and genuinely connected Dovorian community.
Ritchie has been a key member of Dover College since 2018, where he teaches Film and Media and has been instrumental in shaping the subject into a vibrant, innovative and successful part of the curriculum. His teaching is enriched by more than two decades of experience across the film and television industry, beginning at Granada Television and BBC Manchester. His early career saw him working on iconic programmes such as Coronation Street, Stars in Their Eyes, You’ve Been Framed and Top of the Pops, as well as contributing to the launch of MUTV and LTV.
His move to London expanded his portfolio further, working with LWT, ITV and major broadcasters including Sky, Disney, Channel 4 and the BBC. Ritchie’s pioneering work in interactive television and 3D broadcast technology earned him a BAFTA nomination for Digital Creativity, underscoring his reputation as an innovator in emerging media
Alongside his civilian career, Ritchie has served with distinction in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve since 2010. Commissioned in 2012, he joined the Media Operations Specialisation and has deployed across the United States, Europe and the Middle East. He has held several leadership roles, including Initial Naval Training Officer at HMS PRESIDENT and, from 2019, Commanding Officer of the Medway Division. He currently serves as a Lieutenant Commander, bringing strategic insight, discipline and organisational experience to every role he undertakes.
Ritchie continues to work as a freelance creative, returning to the James Bond franchise for No Time to Die, and remains active as a screenwriter, director and playwright. His interests centre on the evolving relationship between storytelling and technology—particularly virtual and augmented reality, gaming and interactive narrative design. He is passionate about how these emerging platforms can reshape audience engagement and redefine modern storytelling.
Away from work, Ritchie is a committed sportsman, playing Eton Fives and serving as Quarterback for the Margate Krakens Flag American Football team. He lives on the Kent coast with his partner, Fiona, and their two children, Perdita and Huxley, and is rarely seen travelling without a guitar in hand.
Ritchie’s breadth of experience—spanning education, media, military service, leadership and creative innovation—makes him an invaluable addition to the Old Dovorian Club Committee. His appointment marks an exciting step forward in strengthening the partnership between the Club and Dover College, ensuring that future generations of Dovorians benefit from a community that is connected, collaborative and forward‑looking.
